End of the Year and End of an Era - a look back on a fantastic year as TSC

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This is the last newsletter for 2014 and once again we have had a very exciting, challenging and rewarding school year. During the year there have been a large number of events showing what a great community we have here at Terra Sancta.

Some of these events have included Ninja and Pirate Days for Stage 4, Year 6 into Year 7 Transition Day,Terra Sancta Musical “Apollo 14”,  Mock Trial, Debating, Public Speaking, Science and Mathematics Competitions, Write A Book In A Day, Marian Expo, Year 12 Retreat at Collaroy, Year 7 Camp at Yarramundi, Reflection Days, Chess Competitions, the further development of Campus Assemblies and the House System, Sports Competitions, TAFE and UWS courses, NAPLAN, String Movement and of course another HSC. Then there have been the extensive building works we have undertaken.

As we look back to the events of this year we all know that one event means that this will be the last ever Terra Sancta College newsletter. The announcement that Terra Sancta College will be renamed St John Paul II Catholic College from the commencement of 2015 caused some in our community to experience a great deal of pain and grief as it was felt that everything we have built over the past 17 years would possibly be lost. But we have come through that grief and can look forward to bright future.

It is evident that we have a community dedicated to the educational, religious and moral development of the students in our care. That community will still be the same community in 2015 as we journey together to the father’s house through this land. Indeed our motto and crest, as we have said many times this year, remain central to the life of the college whatever name we have. As St John Paul II Catholic College we will always have the Terra Sancta College history, traditions and foundations of a strong, vibrant school community. We will still strive to fulfil our vision to be a learning community which journeys together in the Catholic tradition. We continue to value our past and anticipate our future as a strong faith community based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
We are pleased to announce that our College Council will be strong and vibrant again in 2015. We congratulate the following who were elected at the College Council Annual General Meeting held on the 25 November. Council Chairperson – Mr Michael Richards, Vice-Chairperson – Mr Rowan Russell and Council Secretary – Mrs Janine Garcia.
The Council consists of Parish Priests, Cooperating Principals, Parish representatives, Staff representatives and Parent/Caregiver Representatives.
