Progress and Results - Good News at StJPII

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Our final newsletter for Term 2 once again is a reflection of the busy and productive work that has been occurring.

Our Staff Evangelisation and Retreat Day, held recently at the Benedict XVI Centre at Grose Vale, centered around forming intentional disciples with sessions focusing on personal faith journeys and the importance of St John Paul II in our lives and the lives of all members of our school community. It was an opportunity to reflect on our lives and how we can help others by living our lives as Jesus modelled for us.

The results of this year’s QCS survey have been returned to the Principals of the diocese and we have attended the Understanding the Quality School Survey data training afternoon to understand the findings on the data from the surveys completed by staff, students and parents/caregivers earlier this year.

At the training afternoon it was noted that our results are positive and there has been an improvement on previous years. The point was made that our results are strong in comparison to other secondary schools. Clarity is our strongest pillar and there are consistent curriculum processes in place across the community. Once again it is clear that students and parents/caregivers feel that St John Paul II Catholic College is a safe environment which has a number of proactive programs for the wellbeing of all members of the community. Other positive aspects of the school environment that emerged from the survey include the fact that students feel safe and are motivated to be engaged at school.

In the coming weeks and terms we will work on how to use this knowledge and skills to see what the data tells us about school culture and how it aligns with our school goals and Vision Statement. One vehicle for constant improvement will be our use of the newly implemented RISEUP approach to school life. The students and staff have been working together on RISEUP which is an acronym for: Respect, Integrity, Safety, Effort, Uniform & Equipment, and Punctuality.

Year 11 & 12 Semester 1 reports were issued earlier this term and Year 7 – 10 Reports will be issued on Friday 26 June. Parent/Caregiver/Teacher/Student Interviews are scheduled for the Schofields Campus on Monday 20 July from 8 am to 8 pm in the library and the Stage 4 Co-operative Learning Space. All families are encouraged to take this opportunity to meet their son/daughter’s teachers and to discuss their progress. Parents/caregivers of Year 10 students are further encouraged to take the opportunity to discuss subject selection for Year 11.

We would like to congratulate the many students who achieved ‘personal bests’, and/or their own goals in the semester one reports. Students have received their Parent/Caregiver/Student/Teacher Online interview information booking sheet for the interviews. You can now book interviews for the times that suit your family.
