JUMP on the Year 7 Social Justice train - upcoming projects

There has been a lot of exciting things happening in Year 7 in terms 3 and 4! Year 7 have formed a social justice committee and have been working on a number of projects throughout semester two. The self nominated group of over 35 students, have been liaising with their Stage Team, St John Paul II Catholic College staff and community members to collect literacy resources for remote Indigenous communities. Due to the large number of resources collected, the project has now been extended and will go beyond our initial plans. The Wilcannia High School will still receive literacy resources as planned, however we now have an opportunity to expand our opportunity to give.

Education Mass creates a ‘first’ for the Diocese of Parramatta

Year 12 going the extra mile before the HSC

Weeks before Year 12 had to sit their first official HSC examination, students and staff together went the extra mile in preparation. Every year the StJPII staff create a school holidays and after hours study timetable for their HSC students to provide every opportunity possible for additional help and preparation.

StJPII Sock it to Poverty

To support Mission Sunday on October 21, the College took part in a social justice initiative called “Sock it to Poverty”. Staff and students were encouraged to come to school wearing crazy coloured socks on their feet and or hands as part of a gold coin donation.

Year 9 Drama & An Accidental Death of an Anarchist

On Wednesday 17 October, Year 9 Drama students travelled to the Opera House to watch An Accidental Death of an Anarchist.Students were also fortunate enough to attend a pre- performance Q and A session with Polly Rowe, Literary Manager at the Sydney Theatre Company and Jacqui Cowell, Education Projects Officer.

Year 9 Peer Support Training prepares new campus leaders

On Friday, 19 October, all Year 9 students participated in the peer support training program. Throughout the day students had numerous opportunities to learn and lead in different group dynamics, various games and leadership activities that will be used in next years peer support program.

Year 11 strong in faith as they begin their HSC year

Today Year 11 gathered at Mary Immaculate Parish to celebrate Mass as they come to the end of their Preliminary year and prepare for the HSC year ahead! As they reflected on their time so far at StJPII, Fr Ruben challenged students to do their best and to be the best person they can be in this final year of their high school journey. "Do not be afraid. Open the doors for Christ".

Ruselle's Talents Shared at LIFTED Live Concert

Year 12 LIFTED Russell: On Saturday night our Year 12 student Ruselle Madlangbayan sang in front of 100's of people at the premier LIFTED Live Concert. The event was held in the St Patrick’s Cathedral forecourt and promotes a festival-like experience for youth and young adults to experience the beauty of the young heart of the Church in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Society & Culture Students HSC Prep at NSW State Library

On Wednesday our Society and Culture HSC students of 2019 visited the NSW State Library and attended a workshop to kick-start their HSC Personal Interest Projects (PIP). After attending a VERY valuable lecture on academic research, referencing including eresources students were taken on a tour of the library including 5 levels underground!
