On Wednesday, 19 October, over 500 students, parents and staff gathered at the Schofields Campus for the annual Representative Sports Presentation BBQ! The Presentation acknowledged the efforts and achievements of all our great sports stars in the College, celebrating the strong sports culture that we have had here for many years.
The Learning Community Facilitator for Sport, Chris Chapman, opened the presentation with some very special words:
"Pierre de Coubertin the founder of the modern Olympics said
“For each individual, sport is a possible source for inner improvement. “
As we gather to celebrate a year of sport at St John Paul II, I believe Sport in 2016 has again proven itself to be a most valuable resource for all members of our community, through the satisfaction of playing, coaching and the sheer enjoyment of watching student’s exploits on the field.
Every afternoon there are groups of students playing some sort of sport at the College. This year alone we have had over 350 students who have participated in Representative Sports held every Thursday, with many students demonstrating their versatility by playing numerous seasons throughout the year. Obviously sport is not the only tool we use, but I do believe that is can teach values and life lessons that students can use in their teenage years and beyond."
The presentation concluded with a sausage sizzle BBQ where students, families and staff had the opportunity to celebrate. Well done to all StJPII who have proudly represented the College in sporting this year!
