Students from Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta primary and secondary had the chance to shine in front of a live audience during CAPTIVATE’s first Arts Factor Drama Festival.

CAPTIVATE is the creative and performing arts program of the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta.

The schools which took to the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre stage in Penrith recently were: St Paul’s Catholic College Greystanes, St John Paul II Catholic College Schofields & Nirimba, Our Lady of the Nativity Primary Lawson, Our Lady of the Way Primary Emu Plains and Nagle College Blacktown.

CAPTIVATE Drama Practitioner Lucinda Armour said the Arts Factor Drama Festival was an opportunity for students and teachers working in drama to share their work with other schools across the diocese. “All this fantastic creative work is going on in both primary and secondary schools and we rarely get to share it. The Festival also featured performances from Impro Australia and the students were involved in an improvisation masterclass between the morning and evening shows,’’ Mrs Armour said.

All CEDP schools were invited to enter into the Drama Learning Exhibitions in Term One this year.

“We had a great response from a large number of schools," Mrs Armour said. “Performances which were seen to be outstanding at this event and would benefit from further input from CAPTIVATE were hand-picked to participate in the Drama Festival. The drama team then worked with these teachers and students to refine the pieces in preparation for this outstanding Drama Festival.”
