Photos from St John Paul II Catholic College, Schofields & Nirimba's post

Year 10 SRC students, Peyton, Siobhan, Laura, Madison, Ava, Ben, Christian & Tomas, along with Mrs Canning and Mr Matic, attended Young Healthy Minds yesterday, a mental health forum run by the Positive Vibes Foundation and Burn Bright. The day consisted of guest speakers, collaborative activities across different schools, Q&A’s, and a call to start a change on how StJPII can further advocate and raise awareness for mental health. "Our favourite part of the day was the "Take it Back" session where we got the opportunity to create something we've learnt from the day to bring back to our school. For our creative action plan, we decided to include a "5 minute Feel Good" segment in our Year 10 Wellbeing meetings, and depending on the success - potentially across all other year groups. The "Five Minute Feel Good" is where the SRC students will take over the last 5 minutes of each Year meeting to promote positive mental health. This vision will take place every fortnight in our Wellbeing periods and will provide students with the resources to reach out in times of struggle. It will encourage students to speak up in silent struggles ensuring that they do not suffer alone further - advocating for the improvement of self esteem and mental health. This aims to break the stigma behind ‘talking about our feelings’ or being ‘embarrassed’. Remember that if you are ever struggling with your mental health to talk to someone or our school counsellors - just one conversation can save a life." ~ Year 10 SRC
