News Wrap Up - Week 1 | Term 2

 

On Thursday April 28, students in Years 9-12 took part in an ANZAC Day commemoration at the Nirimba Campus.

This day gave students and staff the opportunity to reflect, acknowledge and commemorate the efforts and sacrifice of servicemen and women in Australia and New Zealand past, present and future.

Mr Craig Laffin, OAM, ex-serviceman and Riverstone RSL member was the guest speaker for the ceremony and provided students with a memoir of the experiences of a member of his family during WWI. Students in the Yr 9 drama class assisted with this in a recreation of a cricket match on the battlefield.

Members of the Year 10 music class provided music to accompany the ceremony, including a live performance of Redgum's, I was only 19 to open the commemoration.

The ceremony was also attended by special guest Squadron Leader Aaron Whittaker, father of Kaelah in Year 12 and SJPII is grateful for both his and Mr. Laffin's service and attendance in what was a truly memorable event.

Special thanks to Joshua Findlay, Year 12 student and Cadet Sergeant and Mr. Jeffrey Victorino, Assistant LOL HSIE who were integral in the organisation of the event, but also to Mrs. Michelle Lenihan and the music staff for their music contributions and Mrs. Jaynie Cauchi for assistance with the drama.
