Archibull Prize program

Monday, 2 May 2022

Students were surprised when they unwrapped a life-size fibreglass cow. Decorating it, with their given industry will be just one element of this STEM project which will be running over the next term and a half.
Archibull Prize program
The Archibull Prize program engages school students in agricultural and sustainability awareness, understanding and action through art, music, digital technology, agriculture, and science along with design, creativity, teamwork, and project development.
The program is aligned to the learning areas, general capabilities, cross curriculum priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Using critical and creative thinking students investigate and reflect on global sustainability issues through the lens of agriculture and act at a local level. The program provides students with opportunities to meet young farmers and to gain knowledge and skills about the production of the food they eat, fibres they use and the environment they live in.
Teachers, students, and their communities are inspired to have courageous conversations and become changemakers.
Watch this space to see what Year 7 -10 can work together to accomplish.

Year 9 Science - Wave and Space

Tuesday, 3 May 2022

This term's topic for Year 9 Science is Wave and Space. As part of the topic we are learning about different types of waves and investigating the properties of waves and how we can model waves.
Students in 9.05 worked collaboratively to create a massive wave machine that stretched across the length of the classroom.
Using simple materials of skewers, tape and A LOT of Jelly Babies students were able to create a working large-scale model and visualise the concepts of frequency, amplitude and wave speed as they observe wave motion through a medium. Students explored the concept of how energy is transferred through waves without the need to transfer matter itself.
This experience 'amplified' our students’ understanding of wave motion with this captivating demonstration!

This term, students have started meeting on a Friday afternoon to rehearse with their junior dancers to prepare for upcoming assessments. The students all work so well together and the Year 12s are very pleased with the commitment their dancers demonstrate each week. Best of luck this term Year 12 Dance!

Privacy Awareness Week 2-8 May.

Thursday, 5 May 2022

Do you ever do any of these things at work or at home?
- Send and receive emails
- Use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn or other social media platforms
- Order goods and services online
- Pay bills online and/or use online banking
- Use messaging, gaming or entertainment apps
- Complete feedback surveys or do online reviews of products or services.
If, like pretty much everyone these days, you answered ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions then you should make privacy awareness your business this week.
CEDP is a proud supporter of Privacy Awareness Week, which is an initiative of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
This year’s campaign is about the simple foundations we can put in place to protect our personal information, like making sure we trust who we share our information with.
Did you know it’s easy to build good privacy habits? Go to the OAIC Privacy Awareness Week website https://education.oaic.gov.au/paw2022/tips-individuals for a range of tips on how to build good privacy habits and protect your personal information both at home and at work, such as:
- Using multifactor authentication and strong passwords
- Acting quickly if you hear about data breaches of any systems, apps or websites you use
- Thinking twice before sharing your personal information
- Updating your privacy settings
- Securing your devices.
You can even take the OAIC Privacy Challenge and put your data protection skills to the test!
