Inspired by Mrs Barrett-Brown, Year 11 Studies of Religion II students in 3 classes come together to design an Island.
This empathy task enabled the students to make real connections to their work, their Island including caves, mountains, spiritual sites, walking tracks and forests.
Once completed Miss Apap, Miss Pastoors and Mr Feeney invaded their Island with 21st century structures like roads, houses, fences, Gaols and other institutions. The students were devastated that their work was ruined but their 30 minute sense of belonging to their Island helped them to understand and emphasise with our Indigenous Australians who have occupied their Island for more than 40000 years.

Students Isabelle, Jade, and Indiana from Year 8 gave it their all, despite some nerves and equipment challenges. It was Issyโs first open water swim, Jadeโs first competitive ride, and Indieโs second triathlon in two days! ๐ช With resilience and support for each other, they powered through and are already excited to do it all again next year! On Wednesday 5 March, we celebrated Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent and the launch of Project Compassion for 2025. ๐ Lent prepares us for the season of Easter, the most important time in the Churchโs calendar. By praying, fasting and giving alms, we are reminded of Jesusโ death and resurrection. Jesus brought the promise of hope to all people so that we may โHave life and have it to the full.โ (John 10:10) As we live into that fullness, may we also be challenged to act with love and hope, now and for all future generations.

Last week, our Year 12 College Leaders and SRC attended Lifted Leaders by CYP. Students were able to meet and collaborate with other Year 12 leaders from Catholic schools within the Parramatta Diocese. They participated in conversations of leadership within their schools and giving hope to others.

On Thursday 13 February, Year 12 Dance students travelled into the city to attend the HSC Dance Callbacks workshop and concert. The workshops were run by HSC Markers and Curriculum Development Teachers in the three core areas of the HSC Dance course. Students then watched the 2024 Showcase of exemplary performances in the evening. Students were able to see where their projects are going, and could begin to work towards the excellence shown in the concert.

Yesterday Year 8 engineering students completed a class vs. class competition. ๐๐๐ Students have been learning about the engineering principles behind bridge design and construction. They then put this learning into practice and competed to design and construct the strongest bridge using just spaghetti and playdough. We had some groups that were very successful and created very strong bridges! The students then evaluated their designs and compared the design features that worked well and what needed improvement.
