On Wednesday, 18 October, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from local schools including St John Paul II Catholic College, Wyndham College and Riverstone High School gathered at the Nirimba TAFE Greenskills Hub for the annual ATSI Student Conference.
Guest speaker, Clark Webb, shared an important message around keeping the Aboriginal language and culture alive before the students began a series of workshops focusing on future pathways. The Conference welcomed presenters from Defence Forces, Police, TAFE and Western Sydney University who shared their success stories and the opportunities available with the students.
During lunch Precinct Elder, Uncle Greg, completed a traditional wood carving demonstration for the students, sharing with them his culture and skills. The day was a fantastic opportunity for students and professionals from a range of organisations to join in celebrating the great success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as well as provide the students with great inspiration and ideas for their future!
