On Wednesday 8 August, the Italian Social Club took over Breakfast Club at St John Paul II Catholic College for an Italian themed feast!
Students were welcome to come along before homeroom and try some biscotti, pastries, salami rolls, hot drinks and more - to fill their bellies before classes began. Food was made and donated by the students and their families, and even accompanied by some Italian acoustic guitar music. The event was led by the Italian teacher Lorena Henriquez.
The Breakfast Club - a free, enthusiastic initiative in 2018 - has been continuing weekly for the students to socialise and see the "Dignity of the Human Person" (our College focus for 2018).
The Breakfast Club at Schofields runs on Wednesdays, and the new "Chewsday" Breakfast Club has been running on Tuesdays at our senior campus at the Nirimba Education Precinct for Year 11 & 12 students since early April. Both clubs have been very successful, with monetary and food donations made consistently by teachers, students and families alike. They are run by two of our Religious Education teachers - Mr Len Lara (who will be taking two students to World Youth Day in Panama City next year), and Miss Alicia Shaw (Religious Education Learning Community Facilitator).
It is an incredibly valuable service for students who occasionally "skip" breakfast - giving them the energy and sustenance to be engaging and an active learner in their morning classes.

Students in Years 8 & 9 experienced an empowering and relatable theatre in education program developed by Gibber Educational to complement the work that aligns with content in PDHPE and Wellbeing on alcohol prevention. Gibber explored the life-changing effects of alcohol β impacting health, safety, relationships, and career aspirations. A hard-hitting, interactive, multimedia lesson on the risks associated with underage drinking. π Last night we had the pleasure of welcoming the parents and carers of our Year 7 students to a welcome event with our College Leadership Team and Teachers. π It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss our students' progress as they transitioned into secondary school and to connect with our families. Students Isabelle, Jade, and Indiana from Year 8 gave it their all, despite some nerves and equipment challenges. On Wednesday 5 March, we celebrated Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent and the launch of Project Compassion for 2025. π Lent prepares us for the season of Easter, the most important time in the Churchβs calendar. By praying, fasting and giving alms, we are reminded of Jesusβ death and resurrection. Jesus brought the promise of hope to all people so that we may βHave life and have it to the full.β (John 10:10) As we live into that fullness, may we also be challenged to act with love and hope, now and for all future generations.

Last week, our Year 12 College Leaders and SRC attended Lifted Leaders by CYP. Students were able to meet and collaborate with other Year 12 leaders from Catholic schools within the Parramatta Diocese. They participated in conversations of leadership within their schools and giving hope to others.

On Thursday 13 February, Year 12 Dance students travelled into the city to attend the HSC Dance Callbacks workshop and concert. The workshops were run by HSC Markers and Curriculum Development Teachers in the three core areas of the HSC Dance course. Students then watched the 2024 Showcase of exemplary performances in the evening. Students were able to see where their projects are going, and could begin to work towards the excellence shown in the concert.
